With so many amazing activities on the south coast, the residents at Renishaw Hills Lifestyle Estate have plenty of options when it comes to how they want to spend their leisure hours.

Staying active during retirement has a wide range of proven benefits, including improved mood, less pain, better quality of life, alleviation of anxiety, and so much more!

In this blog, we’ll explore just a few of the various activities that retirees can engage in to stay active and fulfilled during their golden years.

Travel and Adventure

When you are working on your career, you don’t usually have the time to travel as much as you would like to. But once you are retired, you have far more time and freedom to visit your dream destinations. Travelling and experiencing new cultures and cuisines can help keep life interesting.

Whether it’s going on a budget-friendly road trip, or a luxury cruise, there are plenty of options available for retirees that can lock up their homes and go like we offer at Renishaw Hills Lifestyle Estate.

Gardening

Not only does gardening get you outside and soaking up that much-needed Vitamin D, but it can be a truly rewarding hobby. You can plant your own herbs and vegetables to minimise your grocery expenditure or you could specialise in something like roses or bonsais.

Gardening is far more creative than you may think and it’s a hobby that works the mind as well as the body.

Pet Ownership

Owning a pet gives retirees a sense of purpose. It feels good to be needed by someone, even if that ‘someone’ has four legs and a tail. In addition to the sense of purpose, owning a pet also helps maintain a more active lifestyle.

While not all Lifestyle Estates and Retirement Villages allow pet ownership, here at Renishaw Hills Lifestyle Estate, we allow residents to own small dogs. We feel that this improves the overall quality of life at our estate and provides our residents with companionship.

Sports & Fitness

Keeping active is essential to maintain muscle mass and mobility in retirement. While you may not be as fit and agile as you were during your younger years, there are still plenty of sports you can participate in, including swimming, bowls, walking, hiking, water aerobics and cycling – all of which can be done at Renishaw Lifestyle Estate. You could also head to the on-site gym to lift some weights and get in some cardio.

Of course, the sports we recommend that you dabble in will depend on your level of fitness and whether or not you have any medical issues.

Bird Watching & Photography

Did you know that KZN is home to over 400 different bird species? There are plenty of avid bird watchers in the area, whether they watch from their back garden or in the surrounding nature.

Photography is a hobby that often goes hand in hand with bird watching as it allows you to capture different species in their natural habitat.

Social Activities

Socialising plays an integral role in your overall well being, no matter your age. Here at Renishaw Hills Lifestyle Estate, we offer weekly socials, regular braais and pop-up markets to maintain a strong sense of community. After all, life is better when you have people to share it with!

Did you know that Renishaw Hills is not a Retirement Village or Retirement Estate? We are actually a Lifestyle Estate  and we are proud to prioritise an active lifestyle, community, and spending time in nature. With plenty of exciting activities on the South Coast, there is no better place for active retirees to live.
